The Place Within Counseling is a non profit organization dedicated to providing affordable counseling that is professional, compassionate and goal-oriented. Our mission is to provide high-quality, low-cost counseling services. We offer clients compassionate and effective psychotherapy in a safe and comfortable private practice setting.
Our team of Associate Marriage and Family Therapists and Trainees under the supervision of Licensed MFTs are committed to helping clients meet their personal growth goals. We believe no one should be denied access to quality counseling services due to not being able to afford counseling fees.
We have been serving the under-insured and uninsured, high risk populations for four years in Folsom. Demand for our services has grown so much that we had to move from a 4-office building to an office with 9 therapy offices in 2015. We have 15 Associate Marriage and Family Therapists and Trainees who each see between 10-20 clients a week. There has been an increase in the need for low or no-pay mental health services in our area as many potential clients are reporting increased financial strains.
Our fundraising plan was developed for the purpose of funding the expansion of the counseling facility by 1600 square feet. The expansion will allow for the addition of 4 Counseling rooms and a Training/Conference/Group therapy Room, which will be used for counseling groups and ongoing staff professional development and training. The fundraising plan was also developed to support the Hope for Heroes program.
Thanks to grants provided by Volunteers of America (VoA), the Veteran’s Golf Program and MCVA, TPWF is offering a free 8-week veteran group therapy program. The counseling sessions focus on veteran culture and the “new normal.” The program includes monthly yoga sessions from instructor Richard Crosby who is an army veteran. VoA has agreed to provide bus passes so the veterans can have free transportation to their sessions.
True Rest Spa has joined TPWF in supporting veterans by contributing to their “Hope for Heroes” Harvest Dinner, a benefit to support TPWF’s operations. True Rest also offers free relaxation floats for veterans on the 11th of every month.
Executive Director Suzy Lee stated, “There is such a need for mental health services in the area especially for our veterans who often feel isolated when they return home. People need to recognize that all veterans are not the same. Different wars have resulted in different types of wounds and there are unique challenges to those who are reservists versus those who are active duty service members, not to mention the culture differences between branches. The Place Within is looking to partner with local businesses to us to help sponsor more veteran-specific programs so we can provide them with our holistic approach to therapy.”
